Ice hockey is a team sport i.e. played on ice, similar to the hockey played in the field. Here a skater uses a stick to direct a puck in the opposing team’s goal.
Just like other sports, equipments play a major role in this game as well. The ice hockey equipment includes:
Ice hockey sticks Skates (Designed specially to slide on ice) Gloves and Other important protective gears like a helmet, guards, pads etc.
But out of all the equipment, the most important equipment is the ice skates.
An ice skate is very important equipment, as it enables a player to skate freely on the ice and easily skates from one place to another. But before buying a pair of skates, there are a few things that need to be considered.
Opting for the manufacturer’s top model
Different manufacturers make several models of skates in order to meet different sizes of the skaters, and to suit the price range of a many. But it is not always the best option to buy the top model skates.
This is because the skates that are too stiff for a player, it will restrict the knee bend for sure. Besides this, it will be also be uncomfortable for a skater. Therefore instead of buying an expensive pair, opt for the ones that fulfill the two criteria i.e. apt for your skating ability and your physical size.
Wearing the skates like shoes
Always remember that your skates and shoes do not fit the same. One of the safest rules is, to remember a skate will always fit to a size that is size and a half, smaller than your shoes.
If you are buying the skate size equal to your shoe size, then they are definitely too big.
Not lacing your pair of skates
Most skaters forget to lace up their skates. This problem occurs mostly in the cases when the skates are too big. A skate that fits in properly, will more often than not feel small when the foot is placed in the boot prior to lacing it.
Buying a larger length ion order to accommodate a wider foot
In case your foot is wide, opt for a wider skate and not the one that is bigger in length. Buying a big skate will not solve your problem, but rather make you feel uncomfortable.
As a hockey player it is necessary to opt for the most apt skates, as they are the most important piece of your equipment. Though it is fun to skate faster, but you surely need to pay attention in order to skate fast and risk free.
